In November 2020, we launched our new campaign: Ban Chen. The campaign demands that the Foreign Office uses its power to ban senior CCP official Chen Quanguo from the UK in response to his crimes against Tibetans and Uyghurs. These crimes include mass internment of millions of Uyghurs, forced labour, imposing blanket and intrusive surveillance on Tibetans and the use of torture.
The response was overwhelming - over 6,000 of you have already signed our petition to the Foreign Secretary. Meanwhile, senior Conservatives have pressed the government to impose sanctions on Chinese officials responsible for human rights abuses. The United States has referred to Chen’s treatment of the Uyghurs as a genocide and imposed the sanctions we are calling for in the UK on him.
A growing number of MPs have also urged the UK government to take a tougher line on CCP atrocities. We need to seize this moment and press the government to punish Chen’s atrocities.
