It's time to follow up with your MP!
This is the most powerful opportunity of the year to put Tibet directly in front of the people who have the power to act. On 17 June, Tibetans and supporters from across the UK will come together to demand that their MPs take the human rights crisis in Tibet seriously. We need you to be part of it.
This year we have three specific asks of MPs that we believe will really make a difference:
- Condemn China’s ‘Law on Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress’, recognise its deeply harmful provisions that mandate erasure and criminalisation of Tibetans and call on the Chinese government to repeal the law,
- Apply for the PMQs ballot system and/ or ask for a ‘supplementary’ to discuss the abolishment of colonial boarding schools in Tibet and their violation of articles 29 and 30 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child during PMQs,
- Make a public statement to formally affirm unequivocal support for the 14th Dalai Lama as the sole legitimate authority on his succession, publicly support his 2 July 2025 statement on his reincarnation. Actively oppose any effort by the Chinese government to interfere in this spiritual tradition or to select, co-opt and appoint Tibetan Buddhist religious leaders.
A direct meeting with your MP in Parliament on 17 June 2026 in Room Q of Portcullis House between 1 - 3 pm, or at their local constituency office, puts Tibet on their radar in a way nothing else can. Constituents who show up cannot be ignored.
You can personalise the letter to your MP if you'd like, then send it. Every message counts. Tibet needs you to act today.
Subject: FURTHER INFO - Tibet Lobby Day in Parliament, 17 June 2026
Dear [MP NAME]
I hope you are well.
My name is [YOUR NAME], and I am your constituent from [TOWN & POSTCODE], and this is my contact number: [PHONE NUMBER]. I am once again writing to you to follow up on my previous invitation to join us for Tibet Lobby Day, taking place in Parliament on Wednesday, 17 June 2026.
I will be in the central lobby from 11am and then the Lobby Day organisers have booked the Room Q of Portcullis House between 1 - 3 pm.
This annual event brings together members of the Tibetan community and supporters from across the UK to meet with parliamentarians and raise awareness of the deeply alarming human rights conditions in Tibet.
This year our advocacy will focus on: China’s recently adopted “Law on Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress” which effectively makes it criminal to be Tibetan and legalises assimilation, the one million Tibetan children in colonial boarding schools and the Chinese government’s interference in the succession of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.
As your constituent I have 3 requests:
1. “I ask you to publicly condemn China’s ‘Law on Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress’, recognise its deeply harmful provisions that mandate erasure and criminalisation of Tibetans and call on the Chinese government to repeal the law,”
2. “I implore you to apply for the PMQs ballot system and/ or ask for a ‘supplementary’ to discuss the abolishment of colonial boarding schools in Tibet and their violation of articles 29 and 30 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child during PMQs,”
3. “Finally, I ask that you make a public statement to formally affirm unequivocal support for the 14th Dalai Lama as the sole legitimate authority on his succession, publicly support his 2 July 2025 statement on his reincarnation. Actively oppose any effort by the Chinese government to interfere in this spiritual tradition or to select, co-opt and appoint Tibetan Buddhist religious leaders.”
As your constituent, I would greatly value the opportunity to meet with you on 17 June to discuss these issues and the role the UK can play in responding in line with its human rights commitments. If you are unavailable on 17 June, I would welcome the opportunity to meet at another convenient time.
Kind regards,
[YOUR NAME]
