Where is the Panchen Lama?

On 25 April, Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, the Panchen Lama, will turn 35. He is one of the most important figures in all of Tibetan Buddhism, but in 1996, the Chinese government kidnapped him, and has hidden him from the world ever since, hoping he will be forgotten.

We will not forget Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, or how the Chinese government robbed a six-year-old boy of his freedom.

We invite you to use our form to write messages to him, which we will read out during a vigil at the Chinese embassy in London on his 35th birthday (25 April 2024).

Free Tibet will process the information you provide for the purposes of collecting your message(s) and may share your details with a third party for this purpose. Your details will not be shared with any other organisations for their own marketing purposes. Further details can be found in our privacy policy.
