You can get a protest off the ground

This December, we are going to take a look back at some of the amazing success we have achieved together in 2022. Last week we looked at our campaign wins. This week, the focus is on our protests and actions...

From our headline-making actions going global and banner drops off famous bridges to organising local protests and printing leaflets and placards, read on to see how our actions make a difference.

  1. We're kickstarting a global movement in solidarity with Bridge Man.

In October, we suspended a 22-metre banner from Westminster Bridge, in front of the Houses of Parliament, in solidarity with the lone Beijing protestor. Our banner was a replica of the banner unfurled on Sitong Bridge in Beijing just seven days earlier.

  2. We stood against Beijing 2022 - and audience numbers plummeted.

We continued to demand a boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. We built on our protests in 2021, the year we disrupted the lighting of the Olympic flame in Greece, by holding a massive cross-movement protest on the eve of the Olympic games. The results were the worst viewership of all time for the Winter Olympics.

  3. Our demonstration at Wimbledon was seen by millions.

Free Tibet hit global headlines in July when we protested at the Wimbledon Championships, supporting the campaign to free Chinese tennis player Peng Shuai. Media coverage of our protest reached 15 million people and sparked thousands of conversations online.

  4. We helped organise and take part in a cross-movement protests.

One of the biggest was held in central London on the 1st October (National Day of the People’s Republic of China). Over 500 protestors and activists from across the movement joined together outside the Chinese Embassy. The genocide of Uyghur Muslims, the assault on civil liberties in Hong Kong, and the escalating human rights abuses in Tibet have a common denominator: the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Over the past 12 months, our actions have raised substantial awareness about the situation in Tibet and reached new audiences.

Will you help us continue making a difference? By donating to our cause, you will be enabling us to plan and deliver on some big actions in 2023.

Here's what your donations can do:

  • £5 will cover the cost of printing 100 flyers to hand out at protests and actions.
  • £20 will contribute to travel expenses for activists from across the movement to the action.
  • £50 can help fund the production of bigger action items, such as banners and placards.
